Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Mankind vs. Triple H w/ Chyna in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship with Minnesota Governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura as special guest referee

Never before had so many Superstars been in contention for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Stone Cold defeated Undertaker in June to regain the WWE Championship. Now Triple H and Mankind were vying for the gold, and with so much at stake, a special guest referee was needed. Jesse “The Body” Ventura, then-Governor of Minnesota, was the perfect choice, as he also officiated the first-ever SummerSlam main event in 1988.

Mankind and Triple H formed a temporary partnership and went to work on Austin. After Mankind went for a pin, however, that partnership eroded and they began brawling to the outside. Mankind missed a dive off the apron, and then Triple H and Stone Cold brawled into the crowd. All three men ended up back in the ring and Stone Cold hit Mankind with a Stunner, but Triple H broke up the count with a vile chair shot. Triple H went for the cover, but Ventura refused to count because of the chair shot. Shane McMahon came to the ring to protest Ventura’s officiating, but he received a Stunner for his complaint and Ventura threw him out of the ring.

It looked as though Triple H was going to get the win after hitting Stone Cold with the Pedigree. But Foley was able to break it up and then hit a Double-Armed DDT on Austin for the pin and the WWE Championship.
