Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Undertaker w/ “Million Dollar Man” Ted
DiBiase
This
will go down as one of the most unique matches in WWE history. Thanks to the
help of several other Superstars, Yokozuna was able to defeat Undertaker in a
Casket Match at the Royal Rumble earlier in the year. After the match,
Undertaker’s spirit seemingly rose from the casket and he wasn’t heard from
since. As time went on, Ted DiBiase claimed that he had spotted Undertaker on
more than one occasion and brought what appeared to be the Deadman back to WWE.
Paul Bearer claimed that DiBiase had not brought back the real Undertaker.
Bearer claimed that he would bring the real Undertaker back and a match was
signed for Bearer’s Undertaker to take on DiBiase’s. The two combatants looked
to be mirror images of each other right down to their moves and mannerisms.
DiBiase’s Undertaker hit a Chokeslam, and Bearer’s Undertaker didn’t sit up. It
appeared as though DiBiase had the real Undertaker.
Then DiBiase’s Undertaker hit a Tombstone, but Bearer’s Undertaker sat up.
DiBiase’s Undertaker went for another Tombstone, but the real Undertaker
reversed it into his own Tombstone and picked up the win. Paul Bearer had proven
that he had the real Undertaker all along.
Owen Hart vs. Bret “Hit Man” Hart – Steel Cage Match for the WWE
Championship
This will go down in history as one of the most personal Steel Cage Matches
in WWE history. It may not have been the most violent or bloody Steel Cage
Match, but all-around, you’d be hard-pressed to find one filled with such
emotion.
The match was highlighted by numerous near-escapes. Owen and Bret literally
came within a hair of winning this match numerous times each. In fact, Bret’s
trademark, long black hair got him in trouble at times as Owen used it to drag
him back into the cage.
As time wore on Owen Hart was able to lock in the Sharpshooter, a move his
brother Bret made famous. Feeling confident, Owen started screaming that the WWE
Championship would soon be his. As the pioneer of the move, however, Bret knew
all the counters and reversed the hold to a Sharpshooter of his own. The
brothers once again scaled the cage, and both wound up on the outside of the
cage. About half way down the cage, Owen lost his footing and got hung up in the
cage, allowing Bret to fall to the ground to finally put an end to this
exhilarating contest.
After the match, however, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, who was watching the
match in the crowd with the rest of the Hart family, stormed the ringside area
and threw Bret back into the cage. He then locked the door and, along with Owen
laid into his former partner, delivering a vicious beating. Davey Boy Smith,
along with the other Hart brothers, scaled the cage and come to the rescue of
Bret, who left SummerSlam with his WWE Championship still intact.
